From my research it seems Children's Day is a special day for children to spend with family, enjoy games and activities and have many treats!
Dragon Boat Festival: http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/china/dragon-boat-festival
"The Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu Festival, Duānwǔ Jié, Double Fifth, Tuen Ng Jit) is a traditional holiday that commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese scholar Qu Yuan (Chu Yuan). The festival occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar."
While we were in Shanghai I was able to get to a Dr. appointment to check on the baby, everything is going well and we are both happy and healthy! Heartbeat was between 140-150!
Afterwards we headed to a wonderful dinner of Mexican food, at Maya. The fajitas and enchiladas were very yummy! We also met up with some fellow American's from Phoenix for dinner. It was a fun night out.
Sunday we woke up and decided to go for breakfast. We are early birds so I checked online for times, we found a place called Mr. Pancake that looked promising...the website said they opened at 7:30am, we arrived at 7:50 and there was a waitress eating outside that said they don't open until 8am, so we went for a walk and came back, we were seated and given menus. While deciding what to eat the staff continued to clean the restaurant. We asked to order and were told they don't serve food until 8:30...only in China! Once we were able to order the food was good, a taste of home with an American' style breakfast, and might i add fresh squeezed OJ!
After breakfast we went to the aquarium....what a mistake on Children's Day! There were so many people there it was difficult to see the exhibits and get around with a stroller. Blake seemed to enjoy what fish and sea life we were able to show him. The jelly fish had a very nice exhibit where the room was dark so you could see them glow. We had a nice time, when we came out it was pouring and luckily its much easier to find cabs in Shanghai than in Changzhou!
Blake having fun! He got a super Mario toy in his happy meal! |
Some sites of Shanghai, and an old fashion phone booth! | . |
Once i returned from the spa we had a family dinner at Boxing Cat Brewery! I had fried chicken and mac 'n cheese. Of course as it goes in China the chicken was dark meat but it was good, Brian has a burger that looked pretty good! He was able to taste some beer there, however outside there was a beer festival with 50+ beers to try. We wandered out to the beer festival and he was able to try some from different micro-breweries and Blake ran around the grass playing with some of the other little kids! I think he enjoyed the Slow Boat Maple and Bacon the best.
Sunday morning was another journey for breakfast at an early hour. I found a BAGEL place in China, wahooo!!! The bagels were good and another western style breakfast down!
Finally we went for a walk on the other side of the river and saw the tallest building in the world that is under construction, the famous pink building with two spheres and wandered down by the river to see the boats. It was nice weather outside, a little overcast but great for going on a walk!
That's all for now, will blog again soon!
