So it turns out that inadvertently Blake and I had a mommy/son weekend in Shanghai. We took full advantage of the fact there were just two of us, neither of us needed a nap, and we didn't need a stroller to get around! We had so much fun (although we missed Brian and Grace very much) exploring the city and seeing somethings new and old!
I stay home with Grace, so I am used to having one child sometimes, but it is usually the one that doesn't make decisions yet, doesn't walk for long periods of time, needs and nap and wants to be in the baby carrier or stroller. Having one child age 3.5 was so easy and fun. While I love both my children it was nice to have one on one time with Blake for more than an hour, as I have lots of this with Grace:).
The pictures are not in order of how they occurred but....here we go!
Shanghai, Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street at night, it is like a mini Las Vegas with all the neon signs! Just in case you were looking for a Chinese Restaurant we found ONE, the sign clearly states Chinese Restaurant in English. We rode from one end to the other on the "train" and then ended up at M&M World! Blake thought the life size M&Ms were really cool, then we found the Red and Yellow M&M characters, even better! We picked up some chocolates, Blake selected only red, only green and only blue M&Ms! He stepped on the mood machine and his color was Yellow!
I had heard of the Shanghai Circus but it is once a day at 7:30pm which is too late for Miss Grace so we hadn't gone yet to this show. Blake and I got front row tickets to the performance on a Friday night, it was a date! We had a lot of fun seeing the acrobatics, some Chinese influenced dancing, and an ending of 8 motorcycles in a giant sphere! It wasn't Barnum and Bailey as I was originally thinking but it was a circus!! Blake and I also took the metro/subway for the first time. Honestly, coming from AZ it was a little intimidating to me as we drive our cars everywhere but in Hong Kong we took the metro with such ease, I was willing to try it with one kid. Although one time we got off one stop early and had to wait for another metro 2 minutes to get back on, Blake reminded me I made a mistake a few time....haha. It was really easy to get clear across town without the weather delays, trying to hunt for a taxi and the crazy Shanghai traffic. The metro was so clean, I didn't even see an Ayi which is super common to see sweeping up the litter and such around the city. The cost depending on how long you ride is about $0.50 to $1.50 per person.
Blake and I love aquariums! We have been a few times to the Shanghai aquarium, this time we found Ocean World. They are in Chengfeng Park, and are associated with Legoland. We went to Legoland first, bought out tickets and they had an offer for both places together, and you know I love a deal, so we bought them and had two days worth of activities! The Ocean World has a Beluga whale show but somehow we ended up at the exit without even seeing the sign for this. Either way, the aquarium was really nice, the displays were beautiful and uniquely had Chinese influence in them as well (check out the photo with the dinning room table and chairs with fish swimming in it, or the fish coming out of the Chinese pot). And without prompting, Blake went into a tunnel and I took a photo of him doing the typical Chinese peace sign with his fingers in the photo :) Legoland was a second trip by request of Blake, he loved it there!!!
Since there are so many photos of Blake, here are a few recent of Grace to even it out a little. She spent her weekend with daddy!
Now our little family is off to our next adventure, Tokyo, Japan to see Disneyland Tokyo, Disney Sea Tokyo and all the other things Tokyo has to offer us over 9 days!!! Next post will be all about Tokyo!
