The Cherry Blossom Trees are in Bloom

So it's March already!  Wow we are passing through time faster than I can keep up with!  The weather was getting warmer in Changzhou and then boom, cold, rainy and bundled up again!  The cherry blossom trees are starting to bloom despite the cold, here are some photos just from the garden where we live!  I hope to get out to see more this month and next when they are in full bloom and beautiful!

There are a few photos of food i have from the past few weeks, at my local fruit market, there is a new fruit man, you have to have your fruit weighed individually by the "fruit man" and then vegetables individually weighed by the "vegetable man" no mixing this up....anyway its a new person and he is always smoking!  Drives me crazy, you can see him weighing my oranges with a cigarette in his mouth.  There are a few pictures of meat, one big slab just sitting in a grocery cart, the other is open to the air and people can reach in and grab what they like, then have it weighed.  If you want to buy gum, at least make sure you buy the kind that comes with a spoon so you can get it all in your mouth at once!  The next is a massive size squash, fruit thing they seem to always cut up and sell in slices and to be honest i have never tried it or bought it but look at how huge, good thing they slice it up!  Finally there is a photo of some tea brewing in a department store.

The next set of photos are totally random things, a guy getting his hair cut in the middle of the mall, not in a shop, we saw a guy getting his haircut on the street the other day!  I went for a haircut last week, in a clean shop with a professional and it cost me about $3.50 with my VIP card!  There are a few photos of the gas station, you don't see them around nearly as much in China as at home, and they have attendants that still help you pump your gas.  The Dairy sign says "Daily" at one of the grocery store chains.  There are many kinds of soy sauce apparently, and i bough both light and dark for a recipe, can't tell the difference.  Here is the winter cover for the scooter rider up close, there is hand and front body coverage!  Also, A Mr.Bean coffee shop and two interesting ways or transporting cargo!

These are from my "Pearl Lady" and yes I do have a "Pearl Lady" :)  She posted some photos the other day of the fresh pearls from Suzhou, China!

Random things I don't understand in China....
1) why no napkins?  they put kleenex out everywhere but no strong napkins
2) bring your own toilet tissue to the public bathrooms, i forget often and have to pay 1 rmb to get a packet from the vending machine :(
3) only one door is unlocked of 8, then you get in that door and of the second set of doors the one that is open is on the completely opposite side, always!
4) Everything is cash, so many things can't be paid for online or with a debit card, it drives me nuts sometimes for lack of convenience with 2 kids.
5) You put money on your cell phone, when the money runs out they turn off your phone, they warn you once you have gone past $0 with a text message!  I love being at home and paying my monthly bill on auto-pay and having cell service all the time!
6) They always honk their car horns, all the time!!!
7)  They insist on making their children say hi to the foreigners even though the child clearly has no interest
8) They eat a lot of things on the go out of bags or on sticks, chew with their mouths open and then spit right in front of you on the street....not such American manners
9)  They enjoy "Stinky Tofu" that's the name and it doesn't lie, I can't get past the smell to try the stuff
10)  They don't seem to like pedicures, I have found many nail salons, but only a couple where you can get a pedicure and i don't mean to have your nails painted only but a real pedicure, this is a luxury to me!

Grace's first pedicure( I just clipped and painted her nails at home)

We took the kids to the Dinosaur Park last weekend and had a really nice time, it was a lot of fun and we had a really warm day so we might as well take advantage of it!  While there we saw an Elephant show, rode some rides and had some fun!

Blake has Pajama Day at school for Polar Bear Awareness week, Grace and I went to school that day for the assembly so she also got to wear her pajamas out of the house!

Love all the friends that are family to us now in China.  My children benefit everyday from the wonderful families we have found here and surrounded ourselves with.  This is our typical walk home from the bus stop after school!

Until next time......
