Randomness in China

Here are just a few additional things that have been interesting to me so I had to take photos and wanted to share with everyone.

So I have mailed a few postcards, gifts and packages to the US.  This is one of the larger post offices i have visited.  The interesting thing about the post office here is you go to China Post to mail something, but there is also China Post Bank which usually occupies most of the building.....but not all China Post Banks have a China Post inside.  It is an experience to fill out customs forms, even for silly things, and have to add multiple stamps to post cards to send.  It seems that the items get there anywhere from 1-4 weeks from China to the USA.  Most of the people who work there only speak Chinese so I tell them air to USA and use my hand to make and airplane.  It seems to work with my charades and the cost is much cheaper than the US.

Here are some random pictures, the first from top left clockwise.....A sign in the Starbucks restroom, thank goodness they have western toilets, for this pregnant mama i look for Starbucks not only for their reliable restrooms but decaf coffee!  Only in China do you have to tell people NOT to squat on top of a toilet.....LOL  In China, you don't want to throw the tissue into the toilet but always into a receptacle, something i am still trying to remember each time.  The second is a custard egg, it was a hollowed out egg filled with a delicious caramel custard I recently had at a Chinese coffee shop.  Blake went to the market with me and insisted on riding the little cart below.  We went through 3 rmb to his amusement!  The final photo is a wooden carving of the Great Wall that is in Brian's office lobby.

In Hangzhou we found a few interesting things as well...we went to a German restaurant.  We were the only people in the huge restaurant, the food was just OK but the pretzel bread was delicious. Blake was able to entertain the waitresses, literally we were the only people and three waitresses, two cooks and us! Here is their take on sausages, and potato pancakes.  The bottom left is a crazy escalator that is like a wave, it was continuous.  The bottom right is where we were walking near the lake, i loved all the trees!

Blake is my little man, we spend Tuesday and Thursday together each week, other days he is in nursery school.  This week we baked some banana chocolate chip bread that was delicious.  I had to pull the batter away from Blake so we would have enough to put in the loaf pans.  recipe here.  He was also very helpful in making a lasagna this week, I think he has a little bit of his Uncle Jayme in him!
