Catching up from the past two weeks in China...

So I figured I would go back through my memory and my phone and see what I can come up with for another Blog post this week.  There are some goofy things we see around China that are everyday normalcies here while we look and question what were they thinking?

Why is it cool to match either your whole family, a group of friends or with your significant other?  We saw a group of 4 or 5 20 somethings all wearing the same Monsters University T-shirts while walking around the city together.  Everywhere we go there are pairs either literally wearing the same shirts and colored bottoms or the same color shirts and bottoms, I know my parents have pulled this off a time or two on "accident" with the same color t-shirts and shorts but come on people, don't do it on purpose.  Maybe Brian and I will try it just to see if we get a reaction walking around as foreigners?  LOL, yea right he would NEVER do that with me...:)  It just seems like an odd idea to exactly match, i remember when i was a kid it was cool for you and you friend to try and match, wear the same color one day or something but this is going to far, you people aren't 8 years old!

What is the internet like in China?  Well...it's not like at home!  We have the fiber optic internet that is supposed to be the best in our apartment and when it wants to work its good, we can watch Netflix, tv shows and such via the internet and our cable is Android TV so its internet based too.  We have time blocks when the internet seems to either completely not work or slow down to a crawl like a snail!  When i asked our local relocation specialist if we could get this fixed or pay for upgraded internet he told me this was just a phenomenon in China and everyone experiences it, there is no fix.  Seriously, in a country this large with so many intelligent and technologically savvy people you can't figure out how to make internet work all day long for people???  So if you want to email me, Facebook me, catch me on Pinterest or do a video chat, please don't try between 12pm-4pm and 7pm-10pm China time, it won't happen!  That's China for you!

Look at what I found in the grocery store, it made this pregnant lady's day!  They seem to be continuing to stock the famous specialty ice cream as they now have a display case and sign for it so fingers crossed enough people continue to buy it that I can have a treat every once in a while!

Mayonnaise seems to be popular in China...is this Canada?  They put mayonnaise on burgers, chicken sandwiches and now breakfast sandwiches???  So I have figured out how to ask when i go in personally and order to say or show no mayo, however they seem to look at me like its odd I don't want it on my food.  At the train station on Wednesday Brian went to Burger King to get some breakfast sandwiches and orange juice before we got on an early train, he came back with all they had, a croissant sandwich with mayo, lettuce, tomato, ham and egg and orange soda.....oh boy!  Maybe i should open up my own breakfast stand with real food and NO MAYO!  haha

Speaking of fast food- I am sure many of you heard about the issues in Shanghai with the food supplier to KFC, McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut and I am not sure if anyone else was effected int he fast food world.  We did not eat any of this food, we didn't get sick, no worry there.  However, we did try to go to McDonald's for breakfast one day while in Shanghai and while they offer many sandwiches for breakfast, all they had was the egg and cheese McMuffin and the breakfast chicken sandwich.  We assume this was due to the scare as they had part of the breakfast menu covered up, they did however have actual orange juice thank goodness!

They Typhoon!  We did not get hit by the typhoon.  We are located 2 1/2 hours by car, North West of Shanghai, see below on the map.  So we aren't a coastal city but it seems we did get some fresh air blowing through our city to where we could see pretty far from our apartment!  There were some thunderstorms last weekend while in Shanghai where our hotel cable went out for a bit and from what i was told there should be some more good storms in town this weekend as well.  But for now we are all safe and sound, thanks for those who were concerned.

From: Changzhou, Jiangsu, China To: Shanghai, China

Here is one more place we found in Shanghai, they were making donuts and apple cakes, I found their process to be very interesting and you could watch them through a display window as they prepared their items.

A few photos from one of the play areas we found in the local mall for kiddos!

Yum, made homemade cinnamon rolls, they are worth the time and Brian says they are AMAZING!  I agree!

Ok until next time......Here is a photo of Blake, he is sympathy eating during my pregnancy....pickles and oreos!
