After Blake went to bed we went out for a walk to get Starbucks and a haircut for Brian. (grandparents were watching Blake he wasn't left alone in the hotel) We saw a place near the hotel earlier that seemed to be nice enough, had the barber pole as most do in China and its a guys haircut so really how far do you have to look for a barber? We went in and they seated us both on a couch, showed a menu with price list for different experienced stylists, after my haircut a few weeks ago we agree that it's good to go with the more experienced stylist and pay the $20 (usd) for his cut. Mind you they then ask me if I need a haircut too...seriously isn't it short enough, what more can you do to it??? So i politely said no, and remained sitting on the couch which was in the middle of the salon.
Brian was whisked away by an assistant as we know they need in China, and got his hair washed. Once he came back the assistant dried his hair off a bit with the towel and stepped to the side. He sat there patiently while the stylist used multiple pairs of scissors and electric razor with the numbers. This stylist was very meticulous in cutting Brian's hair and I was feeling really good about the end result.
Mind you this is what i saw happening in the chair next to Brian, not sure what was going on with her hair??? We didn't stay long enough to see the end result.
So Brian is done and they took him back once more to wash his hair, then blow dry and we got the end result! Short on the bottom and long on the top. It almost looked like a half haircut and as he usually goes every 4 weeks i think he might be going back next weekend just to get the top trimmed! Of course he still looks handsome, but it's more of a Chinese style than an American style! Where are you when we need you Jaime@DollyRockers? LOL
On another note, when we shipped all of Blake's toys here to China it appeared that one of his new favorites did not make it in the shipment, we haven't yet found out where it disappeared to or if someone in custom's thought it would make a good gift for their child, but we were able to get reimbursed by the insurance and this is his new replacement. I have seen them more around China than in the US, but its a trike with the ability for the parents to steer and has a shade cover for hot days. Brian and I took him out for a walk in it yesterday and he seemed to really enjoy the ride, although he can't quite reach the pedals. He has a place to rest his feet but prefers to drag them as he tries to reach for the pedals so it will be a learning experience!
We then took Blake for a haircut, not much to tell her, typical cut for our little man. He cried, we held his head while they trimmed his hair....but afterwards we ventured through the mall to find the arcade and children's play area. This seems to be very popular in China to have play areas, for instance you pay 35 rmb and your child can run around an indoor playground, then they offer arcade games that you would purchase tokens for and can redeem tickets just like Peter Piper Pizza. After traumatizing him with a haircut we decided to let him ride the train around. It was 10 rmb or about $1.50 (usd) for a ride and dad went with him, as you can see from the photo he wasn't thrilled at first but had fun none the less.
The rest of my week was spent resting as this little one has been taking all my energy that Blake doesn't use up! More to come next week from our adventures!!!
